Chicago to Kingston, Canada

On June 14, we transported 62.3 GB of the BESTDR3 data set from Chicago to Kingston, Ontario, Canada in 37.61 minutes. This corresponds to a transport speed of approximately 220.9 Mb/s.

The data was transferred disk-to-disk from an NCDM machine at the StarLight Facility in Chicago, USA to an NCDM machine at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Because disk storage on the machine in Kingston is limited, one 12.5 GB data file was transferred, erased, and retransferred five times in succession for a total transfer of approximately 62.3 GB.

The machine at StarLight was a dual AMD Opteron server with a 10 Gb/s network card. The machine at Kingston was a Lancelot 4850-S Dual Intel Xeon server with a 1 Gb/s network card. We transported the data over the CA*NET4 and Orion networks using NCDM's UDT transport protocol and NCDM's UDT-HTTP Gateway.
